Use the playlist tool on YouTube to create a playlist lesson from a collection of videos with a lesson plan, student instructions, and notes or questions.
What is a Playlist Lesson?
A playlist lesson is a collection of videos that have a lesson plan and student instructions in the playlist description. See an example at: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL19DF91219D4A7FBE
The remaining steps in this tutorial will show you how to create a playlist lesson on YouTube.
Browse to the Video Manager on YouTube
Click your user name on the upper right corner of YouTube to expand the menu of links. If your user name or email address is not displayed then you might need to log in first.
Click the Video Manager link on the expanded menu. The direct link to the Video Manager is: http://www.youtube.com/my_videos
You can access a variety of tools from the Video Manager.
Browse to the Playlists area on YouTube
Click the Playlists button under the Video Manager menu. The direct link to the Playlists area is: http://www.youtube.com/view_all_playlists
You can create or edit playlists from this area.
Create a New Playlist
Click the New playlist button. Type a title for the playlist lesson where it says Playlist title. The Playlist description area is where you can type your lesson plan and instructions for students to complete the lesson. There is currently a limit of 5,000 characters for playlist descriptions on YouTube. Certain characters such as HTML code or some special characters might not work.
You can go back later to edit the title, description, or lesson information.
Click the Create Playlist button or Cancel if you do not wish to proceed.
Open the Playlist Editor
Click the Edit button next to the playlist you wish to update.
Edit Title and Lesson Plan
Add or update the title and add the lesson plan to the description area. Make sure to click the Done button to preserve the changes.
Edit Privacy Settings
You can leave the playlist set to Public or change it to Private if you do not wish for it to be viewed by the public. For example, you may wish to keep the lesson private until you are ready to make it available for students to complete.
Settings options change on YouTube from time to time. However, you should be able to change certain preferences such as allowing embedding, comments, or ratings on the playlists. It is a good idea to check all options available in the playlist editing window.
Add Videos to Your Playlist
One of the easiest ways to add videos to your playlist is to browse to a video you would like to add, click the Add to button below the video player, and select the playlist that you want to add the video to.
Add a Note to Each New Video
You can add a note to each video in the playlist to include question prompts or instructions for things you want students to watch for in the videos. Open the playlist editor, click the note button, and type the text into the Add note box.
Rearrange or Delete Videos in the Playlist
To rearrange videos, drag and drop them by clicking the handle just to the left of the thumbnail image. Use the Actions menu to move selected videos or remove them from the playlist. Make sure to click the Done button to preserve the changes.
Share the Playlist
Click the Share button on the playlist page after you have closed the editing view. This will reveal the link to the playlist page and other share tools. The playlist can be embedded if that option was enabled.
That is all there is to it. As you can see it is easy to create playlist lessons on YouTube.
